ENCOUNTERS

A few days ago I was given a ride by Stephan Weber who invited me for lunch to his house. From our short encounter I received two gifts - a little origami squirrel and a story.

Stephan Weber, now a recognized origami-artist, used to live in the street in Germany making a living by folding hearts and elephants out of paper. In a few months after starting the "business" Stephan discovered in himself a talent to fold anything from a square sheet. See for yourself: http://www.origami-live.de

Stephan´s origami bull was soon discovered by the energy-drink producer "Red Bull", who invited the man to participate in a big origami exhibition organized by the company.

From there on Stephan was found by the Japanese Origami Society representatives who in turn invited him to Japan.

Today Stephan continues living and working in Germany, but the winters he spends in Patagonia enjoying summertime of the Southern hemisphere. In 2005 he built a hostel Casa Hexagon in Chaiten, but it was destroyed by the volcano eruption in May 2008. Now Stephan is restarting the project and building his hexagon-shaped business in a pictoresque place just out of Puerto Guadal by the emerald-green lake General Carrera in Southern Chile.

I have been blessed to stay in Casa Hexagon, it was a very special place. The rain forest just down the road in Chaiten was almost jurassic... I hope life will take me to the new Casa Hexagon one day as I have no doubt it will have the same magic. Greetings to Stephan (and to Henrietta, too! - she was our host at the time)
May the road be kind to you, Carina.
