HOPE FOR JAPAN!

I know that there is war going on in so many places of the world and that there are people suffering and dying because of it, or because of natural catastrophes, or illness, or violence, or for many other reasons… And I have been lucky because I have known of these things, not because of personal experience, but through the news.

Yet for most of the time I have dismissed these images shown by the media - acted as if I did not want to know, saying, there was nothing I could do. I rather focused on my “here” and “now” where most important was my tangible immediate reality.

Despite of that, I slept well - always found a place where I could feel useful that would give me a sense of fulfilment at the end of the day. I did not feel guilty for not following the “drama”, I did not believe it was my concern. And I was criticized too. But why “sigh along”, if you are not taking any action, I would reply.

I do not know if it was right or wrong, all I know that it is different this time. Since March 11, when we received the news about the devastation brought to Japan by the earthquake and the tsunami, I could not make myself forget and continue in peace with my everyday things.

The feeling is comparable to having received the news of a bad illness or a serious accident of a close relative. The most painful about it is the inability to do something and being far away.

Now I can only think of Japan, I daydream of going there. Most of my friends living in Japan have replied to me that they are safe, but there are so many people who are not and then so many more who have lost their loved ones or contact with them. Please be strong! My heart walks ahead of my feet…but will the door also open this time?

Japan, I love you! My thoughts and prayers are with you!
