GOOD WILL

Will too was leaving.
For good.
Again, this did not feel sad at all.
Journeys continuing.
Thanking crossroads for the brief meetings.
Wishing luck and
Good Bye.

Will Meadows, a young North-American lad, travelling around the world learning about traditional canoe building, had now come to the Yagans for the experience. Everyone found him incredibly lucky to get so close with the Gonzalez Calderon family. Just one hour with them costs a fortune for a regular tourist. I wondered how had Will earned his way to become an apprentice of Popi, Martin and Julia.

Learning everything
with them
and about them.
Everything but
boatbuilding.

Yet despite that, Will always looked very content with how things had worked out, even if he had had other personal aspirations.

So when least expected, the day before Will´s departure, Popi called him to say:

"Let´s build a boat". And they went to the woods to carve a canoe,

"Travelling, one also earns. Earns his experiences," said Will and told me the story. His eyes were like two shining gold medals after an olympic race. I congradulated him.

So what was then Will´s service to earn this precious prize?
It was his happiness, which at times is so difficult to feel when things are not going in the pace or to the place one wishes.

When I read this I immediately thought, I bet that guy is a Watson Fellow. I was right! That's the same fellowship I was on when we met in Chiloé :)

Hope you are well!

Just visited their homepage:
http://www.watsonfellowship.org/

The first sentence from the very first page: A one year grant for independent study and travel outside the United States /.../

What a great idea!
